Big events planned for National Adoption Awareness Month | Events

November is celebrated as National Adoption Awareness Month. As such, the Kern County Department of Human Services is holding a varity of activities to give the community the opportunity to learn more about adoptions.
Join the department for the fifth annual Heart Gallery Gala, returning this year to the Junior League of Bakersfield’s Community Center, 1928 19th St. The event will be held on First Friday Downtown, Friday, Nov. 4, from 4–7 p.m. The event will include a resource fair, where community members can talk with a variety of agencies that support the adoption process in Kern County.
Kern County’s ninth annual National Adoption Day celebration will be held Friday, Nov. 18, beginning with a press conference at 12:30 p.m. at the Juvenile Justice Center, 2100 College Ave. The department expects 45 adoptions will be finalized on this day at Juvenile courts, with a dozen private adoptions being completed through the downtown municipal courts.
The final event by the Department of Human Services as part of Adoption Awareness Month is the 24th annual Holiday Cottage Grand Opening, “Where Wishes Do Come True.” This grand opening will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 10:30 a.m. at The Ice House, 3401 Chester Ave.
